Weekly Idea: InstantFavor
I am going to be following in Kevin Rose’s footsteps and opening up a suggestion box. I’ll stick an idea out on the table and see if anyone bites. I find that some of the best ideas that I have had usually come from collaborating with a friend, fellow worker or even someone over the Internet. So, if I remember, I am going to put something up for discussion once and week and see what everyone has to say about it. This may or may not work – but what the hell, right? Its not like that I have anything better to do.
How many times have you found yourself trying to remember that shopping list? Or how about that thing that your roommate asked you to do before you got home from the ballgame? Oh yeah, your girlfriend asked you to pick up your future mother-in-law (She loves saying that, doesn’t she?) a birthday gift.
This little piece of software allows others to request you to do a task, provide them with information, attend an event, etc – but the point is that it will immediately notify your friends once you have completed the task. This gives them that warm fuzzy feeling on the inside knowing that you just picked Mindy up from the dog groomer or paid a ridiculous amount of cash for a box of chocolates for grand-ma-ma.
The people around you will get the chance to post requests to you, you will get notified on your cellular device (or, any device that is connected to the push-notification system) where you will have a chance to accept, deny, or pass the task to a subordinate.
The easiest way to think of this sort of thing is a more flexible version of Outlook’s appointment system. If this service was connected to an e-mail address then that could even be taken advantage of – the outlook appointment system – but not limited to only that. A person would be able to ask you to perform a task around your existing schedule, which could be imported from services such as Google Calendar, Pownce and Facebook.
